Lestini Designs Site Redesign
filed in Design, WordPress on Nov.05, 2009
As I alluded to yesterday, I had a two day marathon session to turn my site redesign over. I have some freelance projects coming up, and it is something I have been wanting to do for the past year. I liked my last site incarnation, but this one is really more me.
It does feature less of my photography, as I chose to not display it around the site as much and keep my photographs in one central location, namely in the Photography section (because I am witty like that). I didn’t remove any of the photos, but kept them in one place now. But I liked the Flash interface that I had set up for that, so that came along with this site redesign.
I am most jazzed with my new logo and the color scheme is something I have been wanting to change forever. Now that I have a greatly established logo (all Kudos go to my buddy John Ryan for that), this will stay with me as long as I am freelancing. I never really had that before, and so desperately wanted one. This will allow all design choices for site enhancements to be based off of that, so it will lead to greater continuity. I prefer to do progressive site enhancements anyway, and now having this will allow that.
Most importantly though, and something that I had been wanting to do for over a year, is that this blog finally caught up to my main design theme. My first blog theme was one I made, but it was a quick fix to my last site. I hand coded this new site from the ground up, so I brought that coding into my WordPress theme. I am very happy with how that turned out. Yet, I wanted to keep the blog very clean, so no fancy bells and whistles, just the facts ma’am. I love it, and I was pleased with how I got it incorporated into the WP theme.
Finally, I wanted to feature more about my business on the homepage. Yes, after all, this is all about me! But seriously, this is to promote the business, so I wanted to show that a bit more prominently on the home page. I like the content slider there on the homepage and it will be easy to swap that out as I want to. Other than that, no major changes. I am happy with the sections that I have in place, and wanted consistency with that. I did slightly modify my portfolio section, but the same idea carries through.
Of course there will be minor tweaks along the way – after all a site should always be a work in progress, but this is off to a great start (in my humble opinion) and I am very happy with the final product. More next week perhaps on some WP conditional statements I had to employ to get this to play nicely in Internet Explorer. Any comments or suggestions on it? If so, drop me a line.
